Have questions about 3P?
Here are some of our frequently asked questions
If the information below still doesn’t answer your query, please feel free to give us a call or simply fill in the contact form and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.
What should I wear? we recommend you and your child wear whatever you feel most comfortable in
Where should I park? Both of our clinics have limited parking at the building, however there is ample street parking along Mt Eliza way and Ozone street providing easy access.
What do I need to bring: When attending the initial intake session for your child, we recommend bringing in any school reports and reports/letters from other treating professionals. These reports can help the clinicians when gathering background information. You can also email these to our admin team prior to your appointment if that method is easier for you.
Will anyone else be in the waiting room? There may be other parents and children waiting for their appointment when you arrive for yours. If you think that this might be a challenge for you, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate an alternate option.
What outside/background noise can be heard? At our clinics the noises that can be heard are passing traffic, music from our reception desk, our receptionist talking to other clients either in person or over the phone and you might hear our other clinicians talking to their clients in the corridor.
What are your payment methods? At 3P we request payment on the day of the appointment. This can be done via EFTPOS at our reception desks. For all intake and feedback sessions we require prepayment which can be done via bank transfer or credit card over the phone. You can find these details on your invoice.
Session types, durations and frequency: If you are visiting our clinic for a therapy session, this will run for 50 minutes. An assessment session can run anywhere between 1 hour and 3 hours. Your clinician will advise you how long they anticipate your child’s session to take. In terms of the frequency of appointments, this is something that may be discussed in your initial intake appointment with the clinician.
Yes of course. At 3P, appointments with our registered psychologists may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $96.65 if you have a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). Please bring your plan with you to the first appointment or email it to our admin team. If you do not have a current valid plan, we will not be able to process a rebate. Medicare rebates are only available if you see a registered psychologist and this is why we offer a reduced fee if you see a provisional psychologist.
Yes, absolutely. 3P is more than happy to support clients with NDIS plans. We are not a registered NDIS provider which means we can take clients with a self-managed plan and third-party managed plan.
A home or school visit is a possibility depending on whether we have psychologists available to do this work on a regular basis. We are certainly able to do assessments and observations in schools and kindergartens. Depending on the distance from our office, there may be an additional fee for transport.
We currently have a short waitlist and clients will be able to be seen within 2-3 months of their enquiry. Sometimes this wait can vary dependent on availability and presentation.
School/kinder observations can be rich in offering the practitioner contextual cues about possible strengths and challenges the child is experiencing in their environment. It is also a good opportunity to speak to the teacher, discuss best ways to support the child and offer strategies going forward.
An assessment can give rich information about the strengths and needs of a child to provide information for future intervention support. This process can help adults involved in the child’s life to understand needs and strengths better. It may lead to additional support in school.
The answer is ‘no’, but the process will definitely highlight the needs of the child and suggest interventions going forward. The process aims to elicit needs and strengths in a range of areas such as socio-emotional, cognitive, learning, adaptive skills, self-care and independence.
If you are seeking support for your child please give us a call on 03 9119 4433. You can also register your details via our new enquiry form which you will find via the link at the top right of our website homepage.
3P offers a range of services. See our services page and we can discuss further at the initial consultation, how we can meet your goals on your plan. We can do a review letter in due course. For a review, we need to know the child well before we are able to offer rich information for the review.
Yes absolutely. Appointments will need to be paid in full and it will be the client’s responsibility to process refund/rebates with their private health funder. We will provide a receipt of payment.
A Provisional Psychologist has completed 4-5 years of academic study and is in the final stages of gaining practical experience before becoming fully registered. During this period, they receive extensive supervision from an experienced, fully registered Psychologist and an AHPRA Board Approved Supervisor. Senior clinicians closely oversee the treatment process to ensure a high standard of care for every client, providing Provisional Psychologists with valuable opportunities to learn from their expertise.
As they are new to the field, Provisional Psychologists are deeply engaged in the learning process, actively exploring theories, therapeutic modalities, and approaches. They are often highly passionate about refining their skills and applying evidence-based psychological methods in therapy.
When first engaging with 3P, we recommend an intake session between the psychologist and parent/carers without the child present. This gives the parents/carers the opportunity to speak freely about the child’s background, strengths, challenges and goals. Following this intake session, your child will have appointments with the psychologist themself. We also offer parent sessions throughout the process to assist families in supporting their child.
A positive neurodivergent approach is a perspective that embraces and values neurological differences, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other forms of neurodivergence. Rather than viewing these differences as deficits or disorders that need to be “fixed,” this approach focuses on strengths, individuality, and inclusivity.
The length of the assessment process can differ dependent on a few variables. This could be; number of assessment sessions required, whether a school/kinder observation is required and prompt return of questionnaires from teachers and family members. We also allow 4-6 weeks report writing from the final assessment session. This time allows the psychologist to collate the data and report on the findings accurately.
